Tonga does not have a highly developed infrastructure for water activities and you won't find any commercial watersports like para-sailing, water skiing or jet boats here, which is great. Surfing is considered excellent off the west coast of Tongatapu and off the tiny island of Euiki. There are some great Kayaking and Game Fishing opportunities in the northern Vavau Group. These islands with deep channels are also excellent for Sailing and the Neiafu Harbour is considered the best anchorage in the South Pacific with plenty of yacht charters. Scuba Diving is not extensive compared to some of its South Pacific neighbours but there are some great dive sites around the tiny islands off Tongatapu and in the Ha'apai Group, with some great cave diving in Vavau. Hiking trails are limited as the islands lack mountain ranges but you will find some pleasant walks along the coastlines of Ha'apai and Vavau the later with some challenging hills to climb, and for avid hikers, Eua Island has some great trails along cliffs and into tropical rain forest.
